Current study on the TRACOE smart Cuffmanager

The TRACOE smart Cuffmanager effectively reduces pressure fluctuations in cuffs of endotracheal tubes - this is shown in a recent study (April 2020) from the University Hospital in Nantes, France.

The cuff pressure in cuffs of endotracheal tubes and tracheostomy tubes is subject to constant and sometimes considerable fluctuations, as it is influenced by various factors (1). Too low cuff pressures favour microaspiration, which can lead to nosocomial ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). A permanently too high cuff pressure leads to damage of the tracheal mucosa, the resulting complications can be considerable. Therefore, regular checking is essential.

In einer aktuellen Studie des Universitätsklinikums in Nantes in Frankreich vom April 2020, schlussfolgerten die Autoren Jérôme E. Dauvergne, Anne-Laure Geffray, Karim Asehnoune, Bertrand Rozec und Karim Lakhal in einer prospektiven, randomisierten, kontrollierten Studie, dass die Ergänzung der routinemäßigen manuellen intermittierenden Korrektur durch die kontinuierliche Kontrolle des Cuff mit dem TRACOE smart Cuffmanager™ die Inzidenz von Episoden mit zu geringem Cuffdruck (<20mbar) signifikant senkte, ohne einen Überdruck hervorzurufen (2).
